philosophy

I think beauty and joy, hope, magic, the love of family, the love of love, the love and coolness of things, made by God's nature or human's intellect, the way poetry can slice and simulate the experience of being alive, the way technology expands our agency.

These are the things that I live for. And there you have it, that's my compass for creation.

That's the world as I appreciate it, but what about how I interface with it creatively? More importantly, what am I doing when I feel the most alive?

  1. Love (of family, friends, and romance) bring -- what feels to the intellectual part of me -- like a disproportionate amount of joy and frisson. It's so deeply meaningful in a way no one can explain. But I hope everyone feels it. Happy people need happy people.
  2. I exist as my own world. Each person I interact with is their own too. We interact and our world's touch. And I love it when they build on each other. When the architecture of my mind folds into the architecture of yours, like my left and your right hand folding into each other, it weaves like they were meant to. Through interaction of conversation, or dance, or just bodies — animals, primally connecting. This is how we function, and together we build a city.
  3. I experience this world, and I also shape the experience, like a sculptor pushing clay (as lifeform) into itself -- it gets denser and denser, thicker and thicker and finally his hands brings out a specific form of emotion in his piece of clay-- just like I bring out a particular moment of time or experience of the world through poetry. Language is my primary artistic interface for experiencing the world in all its casual magic.
  4. And then there is the world which I see. I think, therefore I am. I see you, therefore you are. I view it as my social medium. Thoughts crystallize into form. I make a thing, and I show it to you. Look at this! Look! It's exciting; it has meaning. It doesn't feel that slow, or meditative or deeply thoughtful. It feels more like it exists out in the world, not in here, my mind. Its authorship is much more social. This is my design work, my field of study, it's how I can impress. Hmm, perhaps the most alive design work for me starts with the language of it, the concept as poem, designed through language, and then I make the thing. If they can feel the poetry of the thing, then I did it well. If it moves like poetry, then the design is sound.
  5. I'm so very in my body. I love touching things! to feel the texture of the tree, to smell the books and food and people, to feel skin on skin. It brings me a lot of joy to exisit as a sensory agent playing in the open sandbox around me. So many textures to explore! This world is mine, yours, ours for the feeling

Casual magic
is everywhere,
in everything,
and everyone.
